Statement of Publication Ethics and Malpractice
Economics, Business and Management Science Journal (EBMSJ) (Online ISSN: 2775-3794), published by Mahesa Research Center, is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and preventing academic malpractice. Our ethical policies are grounded in the Core Practices and Guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (publicationethics.org) and Indonesia's National Journal Accreditation (ARJUNA) standards.
1. Ethical Duties of Editors
- Fair Play and Editorial Independence: The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board evaluate submitted manuscripts exclusively on the basis of academic merit, originality, methodological rigor, and relevance to the journal's scope, without discrimination regarding the authors' race, gender, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or institutional affiliation.
- Confidentiality: Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, and the publisher.
- Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must never be used in an editor's own research without the express written consent of the author. Editors recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.
- Investigation of Misconduct: Editors take responsive measures in accordance with COPE flowcharts when ethical complaints or allegations of misconduct are presented concerning a submitted manuscript or published paper.
2. Ethical Duties of Peer Reviewers
- Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Double-blind peer review assists the Editor in making editorial decisions and helps the author improve the scholarly quality of the manuscript through constructive feedback.
- Promptness and Competence: Any invited referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the Editor immediately and decline the invitation.
- Confidentiality: Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be uploaded to public Generative AI tools or shared with unauthorized third parties.
- Standards of Objectivity: Reviews must be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate; referees should express their views clearly with supporting scholarly arguments.
- Acknowledgment of Sources & Competing Interests: Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors and must decline to review manuscripts in which they have competing interests.
3. Ethical Duties of Authors
- Reporting Standards & Data Integrity: Authors of original research reports must present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying empirical data must be represented accurately without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate manipulation.
- Data Access and Retention: Authors may be asked to provide the raw research dataset or econometric output in connection with a manuscript for editorial review and should retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.
- Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that they have written entirely original works (maximum 30% similarity index) and that if they have used the work and/or words of others, this has been appropriately cited or quoted in APA Style.
- Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication: An author must not publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Concurrent submission to more than one journal is unethical and unacceptable.
- Authorship of the Paper: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All co-authors must approve the final version of the paper and agree to its submission.
- Fundamental Errors in Published Works: When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their own published work, it is the author's obligation to promptly notify the journal Editor and cooperate with the Editor to retract or correct the paper.
